After several weeks of rain and the occasional thunderstorm throughout the valley, early July has been like flicking a switch, as we can finally enjoy traditional summer month temps for the time of year.
We took a drive through Lake Country (Winfield & Okanagan Centre) yesterday and could not resist stopping at a couple of beach access points along the way ... dipping our toes in the water for much needed relief from 35c readings in the early afternoon sun.
This weather is now expected to continue for several days to come, so beach and water related activities will be in full swing from here on in.
Summer is here with a BANG!

After several days of rainy June weather, the sun finally arrived this Sunday to bring in the crowds for 'Lumby Days' in the North Okanagan. Great entertainment and lots for the family to see and do. I particularly enjoyed the stunt motocross display team ... and looking at classic cars is always a great way to spend the afternoon.

It's a shame that this particular tree of ours doesn't hold it's spring blossom colours for long, but this capture was taken a week ago. We think it's an Ornamental Cherry Tree??
Although a little hazy here in Kelowna today, yesterday was a perfect Spring/early Summer's day.

Yup, that time of year again! The city road sweepers did their rounds in the last week as roads get the clean up for the Spring season ahead.
Nice to see the back of the collection of dirt and grit that builds up on the side of our roads over winter. The bad news ... we no longer have a feasible excuse for not getting the yard work done, as milder temps and brighter skies remind us that the Okanagan's blossom season is approaching.

After a recent snowfall, this family got out their sleds and headed to a neighbourhood park to enjoy winter! What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon in Kelowna. The added touch ... it's free!
There used to be so many places to enjoy tobogganing in this part of the Okanagan Valley, but I suppose growth and the liability factor put an end to favourite spots. As a child, we were fortunate to live close to the Kelowna Golf and Country Club and spent a lot of our time there during the winter months. Back then, the course welcomed families from all over Kelowna. It was common to see skating and hockey games taking place on the pond and the slopes were perfect for a fast swoosh down!
